Well, kalo dia ngejagoin film City of God, Sah sah aja sih. Tapi kalo bilang film itu orisinil salah juga. Krn City of God tuh sangat mirip sekali dgn film GOODFELLAS-nya Martin Scorcese. Terutama dr style dan ceritanya ttg romantisasi crime. Remember that film?
Sangat tdk fair merendahkan satu ajang award dan terus memuji ajang award lainnya utk memberi kesan yg satu lbh baik dr lainnya . Masing-masing punya agendanya sendiri. Ngga ada itu 100% Obyektif. Tergantung perspektifnya. Oscar kan adl ajang industri perfilman Hollywood. Yah, mau gimana lagi, mereka akan memilih yg menurut mereka pantas utk bisa tetep men-solid-kan industri mereka sendiri. Sundance? Ajang ini sudah lama dikritik krn sudah ngga murni independent lagi. Bahkan kalo diperhatiin, pemenang Sundance 2004 bukanlah film-film yg sudah mendapat distribusi krn sudah dibeli tapi film-film yg ngga laku dibeli. Kebetulan belaka? Cannes? Ini lagi, mereka sekarang lbh suka memanas-manasi industri film dan politik amerika. Liat aja pilihan mereka 2 thn terakhir ini. Bowling For Columbine dan Elephant, 2 film ttg pembantaian di sekolah yg terkenal itu.
Masalah LOTR. Gimana mau bikin film itu kalo ngga didukung visual effects? Bikin ceritanya di masa kontemporer sekarang? Stanley Kubrick sendiri juga thn 60-an pernah pengen bikin film LOTR tapi ngga jadi krn saat itu teknologinya blm memadai. Inti dr LOTR bukanlah visual effects atau aspek technical lainnya, tapi ceritanya, dan dibutuhkan bantuan teknis yg canggih utk merealisasikannya. LOTR film is about the lost of innocence, bagaimana seseorang hrs coming of age dan menjalankan tugas yg seharusnya dia lakukan. Baik utk Frodo maupun Aragorn. Tema sentralnya about the characters not the effects.
